I. Pre-Hardmode: The Foundation (7 Bosses)
The recommended order for new adventurers. Each boss gates critical progression items and NPCs.
1. King Slime (Optional)
Summon: Slime Crown, during Slime Rain, or spawns naturally at outer map edges.
Prep: Iron/Lead armor, any ranged weapon (Shuriken, bow, wand).
Tactic: Stay mobile. Build a rope tower—King Slime can't reach you above 35 blocks. Free kill.
2. Eye of Cthulhu
Summon: Suspicious Looking Eye at night (6+ NPCs, 200+ HP, 10+ defense).
Prep: Gold/Platinum armor, strong bow (Fire Arrows), Hermes Boots.
Tactic: Build a 2-3 level platform arena (200+ blocks wide). Dodge its charges in phase 1-2, then unload everything during the stationary phase 3.
3. Eater of Worlds (Corruption) / Brain of Cthulhu (Crimson)
Summon: Destroy 3 Shadow Orbs / Crimson Hearts, or use Worm Food / Bloody Spine.
Prep: Upgrade to Demonite/Crimtane gear after first kill. Piercing weapons (Vilethorn, Jester Arrows).
Eater Tactic: Fight in the Corruption chasm—piercing weapons hit multiple segments simultaneously.
Brain Tactic: Clear Creepers in phase 1 with piercing, then dodge and punish the exposed brain in phase 2.
4. Queen Bee — 5. Skeletron — 6. Deerclops — 7. Wall of Flesh
Progression note: Queen Bee drops Bee Wax gear (excellent for Skeletron). Skeletron unlocks the Dungeon. Deerclops is optional but drops strong pre-Hardmode gear. Wall of Flesh triggers Hardmode—prepare your world before summoning.
II. Hardmode: The Gauntlet (8 Bosses)
| # | Boss | Key Prep | Core Strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | Mechanical Trio | Cobalt → Adamantite armor, Megashark | Order: Destroyer → Twins → Skeletron Prime |
| 9 | Plantera | Chlorophyte armor, Terra Blade | Build jungle arena with cover blocks |
| 10 | Golem | Lihzahrd Power Cell, same gear as Plantera | Destroy head first, then body. Surprisingly easy. |
| 11 | Empress of Light | Post-Plantera gear, high mobility | Fight at night (daytime = one-shot kills). Dodge relentlessly. |
| 12 | Duke Fishron | Truffle Worm, ocean arena | Stay mobile, use homing/piercing weapons |
| 13 | Lunatic Cultist | Post-Golem, Dungeon entrance | Dodge spells, destroy the real cultist |
| 14 | Celestial Pillars | Endgame gear | Kill 100-150 enemies per pillar, then destroy pillar |
| 15 | Moon Lord | Solar/Vortex/Stardust/Nebula armor | Destroy eyes → hands → core. Use arena cover. |
III. Essential Arena Design
Every boss fight benefits from preparation:
- Campfires + Heart Lanterns: Stacking regen—place them throughout your arena.
- Platforms: 3 levels, 200+ blocks wide, spaced 15-20 blocks apart vertically.
- Buff Stations: Sharpening Station, Ammo Box, Crystal Ball, Bewitching Table.
- Potions: Ironskin, Regeneration, Swiftness, Endurance, Lifeforce (Hardmode).
Pro Tip: Prep your world for Hardmode before killing the Wall of Flesh. Dig 4-block-wide hellevators to contain Corruption/Crimson spread. Your future self will thank you.
