Field Journal — Surviving the Eternal Night

A Tarnished's Survival Manual: Nightreign

Welcome, weary traveler. You have been pulled into Limveld, a fractured realm where the sun never rises. Your mission: survive three in-game days and nights, grow stronger, and defeat the Nightlord that rules this cursed domain. This manual contains everything a fresh recruit needs to know—from choosing your warrior to conquering the final boss alone.

I. The Nightreign Loop Explained

Each run follows a strict rhythm. Understanding this cycle is your first survival lesson:

Land in LimveldLoot & ExploreFight Mini-Bosses & EventsReturn to Roundtable Hold (restock, upgrade flasks/weapons) → Push to Next AreaRepeat for 3 CyclesFace the Nightlord

Efficient rune farming is the difference between victory and a swift death. The central castle area delivers more runes than all other zones combined, making it the optimal leveling ground from levels 1 through 9.

II. Map Breakdown & Elemental Zones

Every camp on the map bears an elemental icon—Fire, Ice, Lightning, and more. This icon tells you everything: what element your enemies wield, what loot drops, and what boss rewards await.

Zone TypeDifficultyExamplesStrategy
SafeLowChurches, Oracle TowersSafe gear-up spots. Rush these first.
MediumModerateMines, Keeps, EvergaolGood for mid-tier loot after basic gearing.
HardHighRuins, World Bosses, Central CastleSave for Day 2-3 when properly leveled.

Day 1 Strategy: Rush safe zones and one medium zone. Grab 2-3 weapon upgrades before touching any hard area. The rain is your enemy—it applies rune penalties and cancels revive mechanics.

III. Character Roster & Team Compositions

Six warriors stand ready. Two more unlock after defeating your first Nightlord.

CharacterRolePlaystyleSolo Viability
Iron EyeLong-Range DPSBow specialist with strong kiting and safetyExcellent
GuardianTankShield-heavy, absorbs damage for the teamModerate
RaiderMelee DPSAggressive close combat, high burst damageExcellent
ExecutorHigh-Risk AssassinMassive damage but demands perfect dodgingDifficult
RecluseMageRanged magic with crowd control and debuffsGood
BeastmanBalancedJack-of-all-trades, adaptable to any situationGood
Beginner Team Comp: Iron Eye + 2 Melee (Raider/Guardian). Iron Eye provides ranged safety while melee allies draw aggro. For solo players, Iron Eye and Raider are the most forgiving choices.

IV. Solo Survival Tactics

Fighting alone changes everything. The death penalty is brutal—you revive once after a boss kill, but dying to the storm or rain skips the revive and applies a permanent rune loss.

V. Secrets, Endings & Platinum Roadmap

True mastery requires defeating every Nightlord with every character and collecting all offerings from Roundtable Hold vendors. For trophy hunters on PlayStation, a version-switching exploit exists: play on one version to unlock items, switch to the other to duplicate them, then return to spend the duplicated currency.

The "Dawn" ending is the standard path—select the normal dialogue option after the final battle. Special endings require specific items: equip the Silver Tear or Law of Regression, or find the hidden room with a crying baby while playing as the Recluse.

Final Tip: The journey through darkness is a marathon, not a sprint. Learn each boss pattern, master one character before branching out, and never fight fair when the environment offers an advantage.
