Elden Ring Nightreign: Everything We Know

FromSoftware surprised the world at The Game Awards 2024 with the announcement of Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone co-op survival action game set in a parallel version of the Lands Between. Unlike Elden Ring's open-world RPG structure, Nightreign is a session-based survival experience designed for three-player co-op. Here's everything confirmed as of mid-2025.

Release Date & Platforms

Release Date: May 30, 2025 — now available worldwide.

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam). Nintendo Switch 2 version rumored for late 2025.

Price: $39.99 USD (standalone title — does not require Elden Ring).

Editions: Standard ($39.99), Deluxe ($59.99) with digital artbook, soundtrack, and bonus character skin.

What Is Nightreign?

Nightreign is a three-player co-op survival game where you and two allies fight through a three-day-and-night cycle. Each session lasts approximately 40-45 minutes. During the day, you explore the map, defeat lesser enemies, gather loot, and prepare. When night falls, a massive boss — the Nightlord — descends, and you must defeat it before the cycle ends.

Key Difference: Unlike Elden Ring, there is no character creation or RPG progression. You choose from a roster of eight pre-made heroes (called "Nightfarers"), each with unique abilities, stats, and ultimate attacks. Progression is per-session: all loot and levels reset after each run, roguelike style.

Map & Environment

The Nightreign map — codenamed "Limveld" — is a condensed, randomized version of Limgrave that shrinks as the three-day cycle progresses (similar to battle royale circle mechanics). Each day, the playable area contracts, forcing teams closer to the Nightlord's arena.

Biomes & Hazards

The map features rotating elemental zones that change each session: Fire Swamp (Scarlet Rot pools), Frozen Plateau (Frostbite buildup, reduced visibility), Thunder Mesa (lightning strikes, electrified water), and Shadowfen (Death Blight buildup, invisible enemies).

Co-Op & Solo Play

Nightreign is designed for three-player co-op, but solo play is supported with scaled enemy health and damage. Two-player is also available with auto-fill matchmaking for the third slot. There is no PvP or invasion mechanic — this is strictly cooperative.

Crossplay: Not available at launch. FromSoftware has stated they are "evaluating" crossplay for a future update. Currently, matchmaking is platform-restricted.

Progression & Meta-Systems

While each session resets your character's level and gear, there is a persistent meta-progression system:
