PALPAD ENTRY — SAKURAJIMA EXPEDITION LOG
Palworld Sakurajima Update Guide 2026: New Island, Pals & Features
The Palpagos Islands have expanded once again. The Sakurajima Update adds a massive new volcanic island, a quest-gated entry system, the Pal Fusion mechanic, new Pals, PvP Arena changes, and challenging bosses. This guide covers everything you need to conquer Sakurajima — but be warned: this is level 45+ content. Don't attempt it under-leveled.
Welcome to Sakurajima Island
Sakurajima is a stunning high-level zone blending treacherous lava flows, serene cherry blossom groves, and ancient temple-like ruins. The centerpiece of the 2026 update, this island challenges even the most seasoned Pal tamers. The terrain is vertical and dangerous — bring a flying or swimming mount.
How to Access Sakurajima — "The Rumbling Earth" Quest
Access isn't immediately obvious. You won't find a simple flight path. You must complete a questline that starts with the Fisherman NPC at the small settlement southwest of the Plateau of Beginnings.
Quest: "The Rumbling Earth"
The Fisherman tasks you with crafting a special Compass using late-game materials. Once crafted, the Compass points the way to Sakurajima.
Compass Crafting Requirements
| Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient Civilization Parts | 20 | Dungeon chests, boss drops |
| Paldium Fragments | 10 | Mining paldium nodes, dismantling |
| Electric Organs | 5 | Electric-type Pals (Sparkit, Jolthog, etc.) |
| Giant Feathers | 1 | New drop from Kingpaca boss |
Once the Compass is crafted, it guides you southeast from the main continent's shoreline. The journey is long — be prepared for high-level wild Pals along the route. A flying mount is strongly recommended.
Sakurajima Island Features
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|

| Level Requirement | Level 45+ — enemies hit hard and fast |
| Biome Diversity | Fire, Grass, and Dark-type Pals dominate the ecosystem |

Pal Fusion System — Compatibility Guide
The Pal Fusion system lets you combine specific Pals to create hybrid offspring with unique stats and abilities. Fusion is not random — only specific parent combinations produce valid results.
Confirmed Fusion Combinations
| Parent 1 | Parent 2 | Result | Result Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quivern | Nitewing | Gale-Wing Hybrid | Flying / Dragon hybrid |
| Jormuntide | Blazamut | Magma Serpent | Fire / Water hybrid |
| Anubis | Shadowbeak | Dark Sentinel | Dark / Ground hybrid |
Note: Gale-Wing hybrid confirmed by community testing — an absolute monster in the PvP arena.
Fusion Tips
- Level matters — higher level parents produce offspring with better base stats
- Passive traits may carry over — breed parents with desirable traits before fusing
- Not all combinations work — incompatible pairs simply won't fuse
- Fusion is permanent — both parent Pals are consumed in the process
New Pals on Sakurajima
The island introduces several new Pal species adapted to the volcanic and cherry blossom environments. Key additions include:
- Blazamut Ryu — Endgame boss Pal, Fire/Dragon type, devastating AOE attacks
- Sakurajima-native variants — existing Pals with unique color palettes and enhanced stats
- New alpha Pals — field bosses with guaranteed rare drops
PvP Arena Changes
The Sakurajima Update significantly rebalances the PvP Arena. Key changes include:
- Fusion Pals are arena-legal — expect Gale-Wing hybrids to dominate the meta
- New arena map layouts — volcanic terrain introduces environmental hazards
- Ranked matchmaking improvements — fairer pairings based on Pal power level
Boss Strategies
Blazamut Ryu — The Sakurajima Endboss
Type: Fire / Dragon | Level: 55 | Location: Volcanic Crater, Sakurajima
Strategy: Bring Water and Ice-type Pals. Blazamut Ryu's AOE lava attacks cover wide areas — keep your Pals spread out. Phase 2 adds Dragon-type attacks that ignore elemental resistances. Target the glowing vents on its back during its charge-up animations for massive bonus damage.
