I. Exploring Sakurajima Island
Located in the northwest corner of the Palpagos map, Sakurajima is a visually stunning but brutally challenging endgame zone. Cherry blossoms line misty forests, while a smoking volcano dominates the center. The island is patrolled by the Moonflower Faction, a new enemy group wielding advanced weaponry and commanding powerful Pals like Selyne.
Key Sakurajima Stats
- Level Cap: Raised to 55 — essential for surviving the island’s bosses.
- New Pals & Variants: Over 40 new Pals and elemental Fusion variants introduced.
- New Resource: Crude Oil — the foundation of Plasteel, the strongest material in the game.
- Moonflower Tower: Endgame boss fight against Saya & Selyne atop the Sakura Dancing Shrine.
II. Essential New Pals for Endgame
Sakurajima introduces several Pals that redefine the endgame meta. Here are the four you absolutely need to know:
| Pal | Type | Role | Notable Skill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mimog | Neutral | Utility / Scout | Disguises as a treasure chest; extremely high escape speed. Catch it before it flees. |
| Helzephyr Lux | Electric/Dark | Flying Mount | High-tier aerial mount with lightning attacks. Faster than standard Helzephyr. |
| Blazamut Ryu | Fire/Dragon | Raid Boss / Combat | Massive raid-tier Pal summoned via Altar. 500,000+ HP, dual-phase (Fire/Dragon → Electric). |
| Selyne | Dark/Neutral | Tower Boss / Combat | Moonflower Tower guardian. Capturable through the raid encounter. |
Pro Tip: Before raiding the Oil Rig, breed a Dogen. Its “Homeward Prayer” skill teleports you back to base instantly with all your loot, bypassing Syndicate guards entirely on your exit route.
III. The Oil Rig Raid (Stronghold)
Controlled by the Rayne Syndicate, the Oil Rig is a massive offshore fortress located east of Marsh Island. This is Palworld’s first true Stronghold-style raid and represents the ultimate endgame challenge.
Oil Rig Raid Checklist
- Approach by Swimming: The rig has automated laser turrets that shoot down any flying mount instantly. Use Jormuntide or Azurobe (water mounts) to swim in undetected.
- Anti-Air Disable (Optional): If you must fly, locate and destroy the anti-air emplacements first — though this alerts the entire rig.
- Target: Crude Oil: Oil extractors scattered across the rig are the primary source of Crude Oil, required for Plasteel crafting.
- Yellow Chests = Legendary Loot: Large yellow chests hidden across multiple decks contain Legendary Schematics and high-tier ores. Search every level thoroughly.
- Enemy Density: Rayne Syndicate troops swarm in large numbers. Bring AoE weapons (Grenade Launcher, Rocket Launcher).
IV. Crude Oil → Plasteel Crafting Chain
To produce endgame gear, you must master the Crude Oil economy:
| Step | Building | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 — Extraction | Crude Oil Extractor | Power (Electric Generator) | Crude Oil |
| 2 — Refining | High-Quality Workbench | Crude Oil + Paldium + Iron | Plasteel Ingot |
| 3 — Crafting | Production Assembly Line | Plasteel + Schematics | Plasteel Armor, Rocket Launcher, Guided Missile Launcher |
Place Extractors on oil spots found in the desert biome or on Sakurajima itself. These structures demand enormous power — expect to dedicate multiple Electric Generators to a single extractor pipeline.
V. Blazamut Ryu Raid Strategy
Blazamut Ryu is the pinnacle raid boss of the Sakurajima update, fought via the Summoning Altar. This level 55 behemoth arrives with over 500,000 HP and a brutal two-phase fight on a ten-minute timer.
Pre-Raid Preparation
- Summoning Altar: Build a dedicated raid base — Blazamut Ryu will destroy everything nearby. Craft with 100 Stone + 20 Paldium Fragment.
- Slab Fragments: Collect 4 Blazamut Ryu Slab Fragments from glowing purple chests in Cherry Blossom Cave dungeons across Sakurajima. Combine them at a High-Quality Workbench.
- Weapons: Guided Missile Launcher + Gatling Gun for sustained DPS.
- Armor: Lightweight Plasteel Armor or Legendary Pal Metal gear with Heat Resistance.
Phase 1 — Fire/Dragon
Blazamut Ryu opens as a Fire/Dragon type. Deploy Water-type Pals: Jormuntide, Azurobe, Suzaku Aqua, or Penking. Keep your distance, let your Water Pals tank while you fire from the edges. Aim for the head for critical damage.
Phase 2 — Electric (Rebirth)
At 1 HP, Blazamut Ryu regenerates one-third of its health and shifts to Electric-type. Your Water party becomes instantly vulnerable. Switch to Ground-type Pals immediately for the second phase. Same tactics apply — maintain distance and sustain fire.
Rewards: Randomized high-tier loot including Ancient Civilization Cores, Training Crystals, and a Huge Dragon Egg (guaranteed Blazamut Ryu hatch).
VI. Moonflower Tower: Saya & Selyne
Found at the Sakura Dancing Shrine, this dual-boss encounter pits you against Saya (riding Selyne on a crescent moon) and Selyne herself (Dark/Normal type).
Recommended Setup: Dragon-type Pals (Jetragon, Quivern, Astegon) at level 55. Focus fire on Saya first while your Dragon Pals occupy Selyne. Dodge the purple AoE rings by rolling, and watch for falling icicles that freeze on contact. The Guided Missile Launcher deals ~14,000 damage per hit and dramatically shortens the fight.
"The Oil Rig doesn’t forgive mistakes. Come prepared, swim silently, and let Dogen carry you home."
